Vermont Farmstead Cheese Co.’s three gold medal winning cheeses will be on display at the Los Angeles County Fair, which begins Sept. 3 in Pomona, Calif. The South Woodstock, Vt.-based cheese company received gold medals at the Los Angeles International Dairy Competition Gold for its BrickHaus Tilsit in the havarti category, WindsorDale in the open class hard cheese, and AleHouse Cheddar in the flavored, hard cheese category.
Winners were announced Aug. 9 and were chosen from among 50 different companies and over 600 products from around the country. The 15 judges were all experts in the dairy industry with more than 10 years experience, ranging from producers to manufacturers.
This is the second contest that Vermont Farmstead has participated in and the second time it has won three gold medals.
Cheesemakers Rick Woods and Tom Gilbert were thrilled with the results. “Our first awards were for our soft ripened cheeses and now our semi-hard and hard cheeses have been recognized. It confirms that we’re achieving success on the full range of our cheeses, “ Woods says.
Vermont Farmstead was conceived and founded as a community-based effort to preserve the rural way of life in South Woodstock.
