Sur La Table To Hire 2,000 Seasonal Workers

PrintSur La Table To Hire 2,000 Seasonal Workers

Kitchenware retailer Sur La Table is planning to hire 2,000 seasonal employees for the fourth-quarter, a move that will almost double its staff. The Seattle-based specialty retailer operates 89 stores and employs more than 2,300 people
nationwide.

In addition to hiring seasonal staffing, Sur La Table’s retail store, cooking class and online growth is creating regular job opportunities throughout the country, according to a Nov. 8 statement. An additional three stores are planned to open in the next month.

“Ten new stores and nine new culinary programs provided many opportunities for regular employment this year, as will approximately 12 new stores in 2012,” says Jack Schwefel, CEO. “Many of the seasonal employees we hired last year became this year’s regular employees. We are a growing company and are fortunate to be hiring talented individuals across all functions.”

Sur La Table hires individuals with a passion for cooking and entertaining. Many employees have culinary backgrounds and some even started out as customers. Oftentimes, seasonal workers transition into permanent positions.

Since its start near Seattle’s Pike Place Market in 1972, Sur La Table has expanded to an online and print catalog and a gift registry. In more than 25 of its 89 locations, it offers cooking classes.
