Smith’s, Hot Springs, Ark.-based manufacturers of sharpening products, celebrates its 125th year of business this year.
Founded in 1886 by the current president’s great-grandfather, Smith’s started as a stone company selling raw Novaculite stone, which is found in commercial deposits within a 15- to 20-mile radius around Hot Springs.
Recently Smith’s debuted its Edgeware line of sharpening products and kitchen tools to the specialty gourmet housewares market. The expansion into the housewares market was a natural progression for the company. This product line includes Smith’s signature manual knife sharpeners and electric knife sharpeners, along with its new line of V-etched graters and zesters.
Throughout the years, the company has focused on a single mission: provide its customers and consumers with the best value in easy-to-use and effective knife, scissors and tool sharpening products.
As part of the celebration, Smith’s is holding its first warehouse sale on Oct. 29. The sale will occur from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its 747 Mid-America Boulevard location. During the sale, customers are encouraged to bring a canned food item for donation to a local charity. In return, they will receive a free gift. Richard Smith and other Edge Experts will conduct knife sharpening demonstrations and free knife sharpening during the event. All proceeds from the sale will go to a Hot Springs charity.
