Second Cheesemonger Invitational Scheduled for July 8

PrintSecond Cheesemonger Invitational Scheduled for July 8

About 40 cheesemongers will compete for bragging rights and their piece of the $10,000 award at the second annual cheesemonger invitational on July 8.
Organized and hosted by Larkin in Long Island City, N.Y., the Cheesemonger Invitational is being billed as “the ultimate party for cheese lovers and the lovers of cheese.”
The main event of the evening is Cheese-O-Mania, where cheesemongers will compete in a “no-holds barred cheese battle extravaganza” which “is like the Olympics-meets-Fight Club for cheese,” according to a statement from the event’s organizers.
The competition includes four segments: tasting, cutting & wrapping, plating and pairing cheese. The top 10 cheesemongers will split a prize purse valued at $10,000.
According to the statement from event organizers, “We believe in supporting cheesemongers and the cheese shops that promote them. That is why 5 percent of the event’s profit will also be donated to the American Cheese Society Fromager Certification program.”
The event includes an all-you-can-eat cheese smorgasbord and beverages supplied by Six Point Craft Ales. For more information, visit www.cheesemongerinvitational.com.
