Fresh truffle supplier Sabatino Tartufi will open a new 43,000-square-foot production facility in West Haven, Conn., in early 2012.
Since opening in the United States in 1999, the rapid growth of the Sabatino Tartufi produc
t line, which includes truffle honey, salt, butter, oil, cream, and fresh and preserved truffles, has prompted the move from its current Hunts Point, N.Y., in the Bronx to the larger space in Connecticut.
Formerly home to Matlaw’s Food Products Inc., the facility will be completely redesigned and the production area will be outfitted with Italian-made machinery that Sabatino currently uses. A professional-grade demo kitchen will be installed, and 20 truffle-inoculated trees will be planted onsite, offering visiting chefs and guests an Italian truffle experience, just a short distance from New York City and other surrounding areas.
“This new building is a perfect match for us; we will be able to increase our current production exponentially, add new products to our line and have a beautifully designed space to host events for our food industry customers,” says Federico Balestra, president, Sabatino Tartufi U.S.
As part of its commitment to being an environmentally friendly company, solar panels will be installed to provide much of the energy required to power the building, and its product packaging will be made from 20-percent recycled materials.
