Retailers need to understand and cater to the "shopping goddess"

Retailers looking to thrive in today’s ever-changing retail landscape need to rethink the way they do business, said Wendy Liebmann, CEO of WSL Strategic Retail said Tuesday during a keynote session at the Shopper Marketing Summit in New York.

The Shopper Marketing Summit is produced by the Path to Purchase Institute, a sister brand of The Gourmet Retailer.

“In even just a year, the American shopper has changed dramatically,” Liebmann said. “We need to rethink the way we do our business.” Between brick and mortar, online and new pop-up concepts, there are more places to buy than ever before.

The modern shopper, who Liebmann characterized as a “shopping goddess,” makes faster trips in stores and more frequent ones outside traditional channels, opting instead for models such as subscription services and click-and-collect.

In her presentation, she shared what the “shopping goddess” is looking for and what’s she’s willing to pay more for.
