Mom’s Organic Market will open its seventh organic food store on May 28 in Timonium, Md. The new store will feature 100 percent-certified organic produce, and organic and natural grocery products, including bulk food, local meat, sustainable seafood, fresh baked goods, gluten-free foods and a dedicated raw food selection.
According to an email to its customers, the store was built with the environment in mind; the company’s mission is to protect and restore it.
"We believe that we are the most environmentally-responsible grocery chain in the country," says Scott Nash, who founded Mom's in 1987 with a $100 investment. "As we enter the Baltimore area, we will have a greater ability to support our purpose."
Like all Mom's, the Timonium store is powered by 100 percent wind power. Skylights and LED bulbs illuminate the aisles, and energy-efficient, closed-door coolers reduce the need for heating and cooling. The store features restored retro-style terrazzo flooring, which was discovered hiding under layers of old vinyl composite tiles. Outside, two electric car charging stations are available for public use for free. MOM's also offers recycling receptacles where customers can drop off used batteries, CFL light bulbs and more.
The grand opening celebration, May 28-30, will feature food samplings, demos by local vendors and kids activities, including face paintings, goody bags and raffles.
