On June 1, Le Creuset joined the International Association of Culinary Professionals (IACP), White House pastry chef Bill Yosses and 20 fourth- and fifth-grade students from the University of Texas Elementary School for a hands-on garden-to-table cooking class.
The class began at the university, where students harvested seasonal produce. The harvest was transported to the Culinary Center at the Whole Foods Market flagship store in Austin, Texas, where the students prepared a meal. IACP members worked with students and their families to help prepare the meal. Small groups took a shopping tour through the market, where they will collect the ingredients needed.
Partial funding, along with student prizes and all cookware for the class, was provided by Le Creuset.
“We are honored to be working with IACP as sponsor of the 2011 Kids in the Kitchen program,” says Will Copenhaver, director of communications for Le Creuset of America, based in Charleston, S.C.
Additional sponsors include Whole Foods Market, The Culinary Trust and the University of Texas.
