Buyers are used to tasting gourmet bites at every turn while attending the Summer Fancy Food Show. This year’s event, to be held in Washington, D.C., July 10-12, will feature two new opportunities to do so.
 
The first is a pop-up restaurant called Hansik, to be located inside the Korean Pavilion. The 10-seat restaurant will serve a three-course, free tasting prepared by critically acclaimed Korea-born chef Akira Back (Yellowtail, Bellagio). Back, who has battled Bobby Flay on “Iron Chef America,” will showcase items from the various vendors showcasing their products at the pavilion. Items will include Kogi Taco with Serrano Perfume; Micro Cilantro and Smoked Tomato Salsa; Galbi Jjim: Prime Cut Beef, Black Garlic, Potato and Micro Carrot; Persimmon Delight with Mocha; and Korean Tea Air.
 
This three-course tasting is for registered attendees of the Summer Fancy Food Show who have completed a scheduled buyer’s appointment with a Korean company during the show. Reservations are necessary. To book, visit www.hansikpopup.com.
 
In addition, the Korean Pavilion will offer a “Taste of Korea Bar,” featuring a demo station and tasting bar run by Chef Youngsun Lee. The bar will serve walk-ins who would like to sample Korean dishes. The menu will include daily specials based on availability of seasonal ingredients and featured products from the pavilion.

Proposed offerings will include a seaweed wrap with pan-grilled zucchini strips featuring seaweed paper from Hosan Co. Ltd.; a seasonal salad with dried kimchi and pine nuts featuring dried kimchi from O’Jeju; ginseng honey lemon (chilled) featuring ginseng juice from Korea Ginseng Co.; a HealthKhan cocktail featuring HealthKhan drinks from BioKorea; Melona Balls featuring Melona Bars from Binggrae; Fruitti Tutti featuring yogurt-style fruit desserts from Tutto Co. Ltd.; chilled beverages featuring Yooja and Maesil plum-flavored drinks from Kookie Food Co. Ltd.; seaweed salad featuring seaweed from Man Jun Foods Co. Ltd.; and gourmet instant noodles served with green onion, hard-boiled egg and sesame featuring Ramyun from NongShim.
