Hampton Farms, Severn, N.C., acquired Tanner Nut Co. last month for an undisclosed sum.
Tanner Nut Co. services the gourmet/specialty market with traditional and creatively flavored nuts, including almonds, cashews, peanuts, pecans and walnuts.
Together, Hampton Farms and Tanner Nut Co. continue to produce the same great products offered by each respective company and will also work closely to develop new unique-flavored nut products. Operations continue in the Tanner Nut Co., Tarboro, N.C. facility, and the entire Tanner Nut team remains in place.
“We are excited about the addition of Tanner Nut Co. as they make some of the best tasting gourmet nuts around,” says Dallas Barnes, president of Hampton Farms. “The expertise Chip Penick and his team offer will help Hampton Farms to bring new and exciting products to our current retail partners as well as provide us the opportunity to enter new categories, like specialty tree nuts.”
While leading Tanner Nut Co., Penick has developed a special honey-roasting technique that combines various flavor-blends to complement the nuts. “Our team is looking forward to the possibilities ahead of us,” says Penick. “Joining with Hampton Farms will allow us to better service our existing customers, while also working with the Hampton Farms team to create new products for various retail channels.”

Nuts are naturally cholesterol free, rich in fiber and antioxidants and provide heart-healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats.
With this acquisition, Tanner Nut becomes a part of the Hampton Farms and Jimbo’s Jumbos group in providing snack nut products to the respective consumer markets, including retail, specialty, ingredient and foodservice.
Hampton Farms, a subsidiary of Severn Peanut Co., remains family owned and devoted to producing the finest nut snacks available.
