Blue Mountain Station, an eco-friendly natural and organic specialty food park located in Dayton, Wash., celebrated its official Phase 1 infrastructure groundbreaking on April 15. Special guest speaker was Dan Newhouse, director of the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
Approximately three years in the making, Blue Mountain Station, developed by the Port of Columbia in Dayton, Wash., is designed to be the catalyst of a vertically-integrated program blending sustainable, locally grown produce, and natural and organic specialty food processing, with the fun and entertainment of food tourism, all in a setting that respects the historical, environmental and architectural integrity of the region. It is planned that people from around the world will visit Blue Mountain Station to learn about agriculture, and natural and organic food processing, tour specialty food companies, sample and purchase food at the on-site market, and share with family and friends back home their wonderful experience at the destination.
“April 15th was definitely an historic day in Dayton,” states Jennie Dickinson, manager, Port of Columbia. “A lot of great people have worked very hard to make the Blue Mountain Station dream a reality. We have communicated with many food processing companies and economic development professionals. They have confirmed what we have always believed, that we are on the right track, possibly developing the specialty food processing model of the future.”
