Fairway, TV Chef Team Up on Public TV Fundraiser

Fairway’s Stamford, Conn., location is joining forces with Italian food authority Lidia Bastianich to raise money for WNET New York Public Media on Nov. 5.

The New York-based grocer will donate 10 percent of sales on Nov. 4 and Nov. 5 from its Fairway Wines & Spirits shop in Stamford to WNET. The 6,500-square-foot shop, which opened less than a year ago, offers more than 2,500 wines and 700 spirits, along with wine specialists on staff to help customers make selections. The company’s charitable contribution to local public media is part its corporate sponsorship of the first season of “Vine Talk,” a series about wine airing nationally on public television.

At 11 a.m. on Nov. 5, Bastianich will launch the festivities at Fairway Stamford by signing her series companion cookbook, published by Knopf, and her children's book, “Nonna Tell Me a Story: Lidia's Christmas Kitchen,” published by Running Press Kids. A wine tasting will follow the book signing at Fairway Wines & Spirits, which is adjacent to the grocery store.Bastianich's latest series is “Lidia's Italy in America," which is based on the book of the same title.

"With holidays around the corner, everyone is looking forward to having a hearty meal with the family," stated Fairway CEO Howie Glickberg “Lidia's love of traditional family meals is what Fairway is about.”

During the culinary event, Fairway Stamford will feature a free sampling of Lidia’s brand pasta and sauces and Fairway fall food specials. Consumers can also attend a tasting of Bastianich's wines at the Fairway Wines & Spirits shop in Stamford on Nov. 4; however, Bastianich will not be present.

The grocery store and wine and spirits shop will also stock Bastianich's books, the Lidia’s line of products, and select wines from Bastianich Winery.

WNET New York Public Media is the parent company of Thirteen and WLIW21, New York's public television stations and operator of NJTV.
