Flagsheep from Beecher’s Handmade Cheese in Seattle was named “Best of Show” at the 28th Annual American Cheese Society (ACS) Judging & Competition. The results were announced in a ceremony at the 29th Annual ACS Conference, held at the Raleigh Convention Center in Raleigh, N.C., on Aug. 3.
Valley Shepherd Creamery from New Jersey was awarded second place overall for Crema De Blue and Emmi Roth USA from Wisconsin took third place for its Roth Grand Cru Surchoix.
he 2012 competition saw a record number of entries: 1,711 cheeses and cultured milk products from 254 companies in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. A full list of winners is online.
The cheeses entered into the 2012 ACS Judging & Competition will be available for the public to sample at the Festival of Cheese on Aug. 4 from 7 p.m.– 9:30 p.m. at the Raleigh Convention Center.
In addition, competition cheeses are available for purchase at the ACS Public Cheese Sale on Aug. 5 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Raleigh Convention Center. All proceeds from the Cheese Sale will benefit the nonprofit American Cheese Education Foundation
The annual ACS Conference & Competition – a gathering of more than 800 cheesemakers, merchandisers, retailers, distributors, academicians, food writers, and enthusiasts from the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Europe – celebrates American artisan, farmstead, and specialty cheese.
The 30th Annual ACS Conference and 29th Annual ACS Judging & Competition will take place in Madison, Wis., from July 31 – Aug. 3, 2013.
