In a Scovie Awards first, two products have tied for the overall grand-prize award.

Barhyte Specialty Foods’ Saucy Mama Creamy Horseradish and Poco Dolce’s Super Chile Toffee Squares tied for the Scovie Awards’ Grand Prize.

In this year’s competition, a panel of 100 culinary professionals evaluated more than 600 products. The two companies’ products were separated by less than a thousandth of a point, leading to the first two-way tie in Scovie Awards’ history.

Dave DeWitt, creator of the awards, says he continues to be impressed by the creativity and quality of products.

“This year I was blown away by all of the great submissions,” he says. “Some are out of this world, and the new ideas and flavors never cease to amaze me. The competition gets better and better each year.”

The Scovie Awards, which is considered one of the premier culinary competitions among fiery food manufacturers, also honors first-, second- and third-place winners in 20 product categories. The top award in advertising and marketing went to Crazy Uncle Jester’s for its product logo and labeling.
