American Cheese Society Names WinnersThe American Cheese Society (ACS) announced the winners of its annual cheese competition during the 2011 ACS Conference & Competition this past weekend in Montréal — the first ever to be held outside of the U.S. Rogue Creamery won Best in Show for its Rogue River Blue. Second place was a tie between Finica Food Specialties Limited in Ontario, for its Lindsay Bandaged Goat Cheddar and Carr Valley Cheese Co. Inc. in Wisconsin for its Cave Aged Marisa. Third place went to Fromagerie Du Presbytère in Quebec for its Louis d’Or. For a complete list of winners, visit www.cheesesociety.org. The competition, which began in 1985, saw a record number of entries this year: 1,676 cheeses and cultured milk products from 258 different companies in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The ACS was founded in 1983 to support the understanding, appreciation, and promotion of farmstead, artisan and specialty cheeses produced in the Americas. It currently has more than 1,400 members and provides advocacy, education, business development, and networking opportunities for cheesemakers, retailers, enthusiasts and extended industry. The ACS Conference & Competition is a gathering of cheesemakers, merchandisers, retailers, distributors, academicians, food writers, and enthusiasts from the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe that celebrates American artisan, farmstead and specialty cheese. The 29th Annual Conference and 28th Annual Judging & Competition will take place in Raleigh, N.C., Aug. 1-4, 2012. Source: The American Cheese Society
