Nature’s Path Supports Mandatory GMO Labeling

Print Nature’s Path Supports Mandatory GMO Labeling

Nature’s Path Organic Foods, the Richmond, B.C.-based organic cereal manufacturer, has pledged $550,000 to The Center for Food Safety to support mandatory labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

“Since our beginnings, Nature’s Path has been totally committed to organics and working in harmony with nature, which means that we have always taken an adamant stand against GMOs in our products,” says Arran Stephens, founder and CEO of Nature’s Path. “We fought for the current laws against genetically engineered ingredients in certified organic products, and now we are escalating that fight because we believe consumers have the right to know what’s in their food.”

Currently, Californians are gathering signatures to get an initiative on the 2012 ballot that would require manufacturers to label genetically engineered ingredients. Nature’s Path believes if this initiative is successful, the rest of the country and Canada will likely follow suit. The company’s donation to the Center for Food Safety supports the work they are doing to make this ballot initiative a reality.

In addition, Nature’s Path is working to raise awareness about GMOs and labeling. The company was a major sponsor of last month’s Right2Know March, during which supporters marched from New York City to Washington D.C. to generate awareness for the GMO labeling movement. To easily explain GMOs and the labeling issue to consumers, Nature’s Path recently developed an infographic that’s on the company’s website. Nature’s Path was an early supporter and board member of the Non-GMO Project, and voluntarily submits all products to rigorous, independent testing so they that can bear the Non-GMO Project Verified Seal.
