Heimerdinger Cutlery in Louisville, Ky., is celebrating 150 years in business.
In 1861, Heimerdinger was listed for the first time in the Louisville City directory as “A. Heimerdinger: Cutler and Sewing Machine repair.” Since then, the company has become the to-go place for learning about and buying kitchen knives, scissors, sharpening stones and more.

In honor of the family-owned business’ Sesquicentennial anniversary, Sept. 12 -17 will include activities and giveaways, including opening ceremonies and ribbon cutting. Elliott Jessup and grandson Shine Jessup of the W. R. Case Co. will be attending to hand out the special anniversary knives commissioned by the Heimerdinger Company.
On select days, representatives from Swiss Army/Victorinox, Wüsthof and Kyocera will be in the store. Sept. 16 is “Tell us Your Story Day.” Customers are invited to come in and share their favorite story about Heimerdinger Cutlery. (The family plans to tape customers’ memories to add to their archives.) Mark Zalesky, editor of Knife World magazine, will sign some of his books and assess older knives.
