Housewares company Bodum has been recognized for achievement in sustainable design by the 2011 Green Good Design awards competition. Six of Bodum’s French Press Coffee Makers received this internationally renowned seal of eco-friendly design excellence.
“We are delighted that the brew system renowned for producing true, flavorful coffee is now also recognized for its inherent earth friendly features,” says Thomas Perez, president of Bodum USA Inc. “The Bodum French Press method – an example of good design at its finest – is considered to be one of the greenest ways to brew coffee as the process itself is entirely manual and does not require the use of disposable paper filters. From product design to production to our day-to-day activities, we are proud to be an eco-friendly corporation and this prize is a great testament to our commitment to the environment.”

The awarded products include the Bean French Press Coffee Maker, Bean Double Wall Glass French Press Coffee Maker, Chambord with Locking Lid System, Chambord Double Wall Glass With Locking Lid System, Travel Press Double Wall BPA-Free Plastic and Travel Press Vacuum Sealed, Double Wall Stainless Steel.
The Bodum French Press system does not require the use of disposable paper filters and the brewing process itself is entirely manual. As a company lowering its carbon footprint by implementing sustainable manufacturing processes, the Bodum‐owned factory in Portugal that produces the world‐renowned Bodum Chambord, as well as other Bodum products, utilizes supplies from renewable sources and recyclable materials.
The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design together with The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies have joined forces to present the Green Good Design awards program. The goal of this design competition is to bestow international recognition to those outstanding individuals, companies, organizations, governments and institutions – together with their products, services, programs, ideas and concepts – “that have forwarded exceptional thinking and inspired greater progress toward a healthier and more sustainable universe.”
