The Boom in Beverages

PrintThe Boom in Beverages

GlobeTrends was offering attendees a taste of their new Fair Trade Organic Coffee from Taylors of Harrogate. The coffee is selected from a farmers' co-operative in Nicaragua that provides premium Arabica beans that are grown at high altitudes for consistent quality and flavor. The beans are roasted to a medium brown color and the coffee exhibits a rich, nutty flavor and aroma. The coffee is packed hot straight from the roaster into special one-way valve foil bags that maintain the coffee's robust flavor. The company also debuted a new Eucalyptus and Linden flavor in their San Francisco Granja Honey imported from Spain. For more information, call 800-416-8327, or visit www.globetrends.com.

Always on the cutting edge of product design, Revolution Tea introduced New T-Organics, a line of certified organic teas in what they say is the first biodegradable pyramid bag. Packed in tall cylindrical tins with Revolution's distinctive graphics, the line includes four flavors: Scottish Breakfast, Green Earl Grey, Huckleberry Red Herbal, and White Chai. Also available is their compact point-of-sale display that holds 12 tins of tea. The pyramid bags allow a clear view of the full-leaf tea inside and are 100-percent biodegradable. Call 888-321-4738, or visit www.revolutiontea.com for more information.

The folks at Greek Gourmet have teamed up with DSSI Foods PVT Ltd. of New Delhi, India, to produce a line of premium teas that are packaged in beautifully ornate triangular boxes inspired by traditional Indian textile designs. The new line of teas, named Happy Elephant, is selected, processed, and packaged right at the source in India. The line includes classic black teas, such as Darjeeling, Assam Valley, Earl Grey, and Chai Tea Jaipur; fruit-flavored black teas Peach Melba and Apple-Cinnamon; green teas like Orange Marigold, Cranberry Lime, Green Monsoon, Honey Ricola, and Tamarind Green; and herbal teas, including Ayurveda Vata (Moon Between the Clouds), Ayurveda Pitta (Himalayan Snow), Ayurveda Kapha (Seventh Heaven), and Chai Tea Tulsi (Old Recipe-Modern Style). To accompany all that tea, they have also added Chocolate-covered Bolero Wafers in both Dark and Milk Chocolate. For more information, call 415-888-2050, or send e-mail to info@greekgourmet.com.

Stash Tea, located in the All Things Organic section, showcased several new flavors. They included Hazelnut Chocolate Decaf, Decaf White with Raspberry, Decaf White with Lemon, Decaf Vanilla Chai, and Fusion Green and White Tea. For more information, call 503-684-4482, or visit www.stashtea.com.

Honest Tea has kicked off two new organic white teas in their organic bottled tea line, the company's first white tea offerings in glass bottles. Pearfect White Tea is a blend of white tea and fresh aromatic pear with a pinch of organic cane sugar. Mango White Tea is a blend of white tea and mangos sweetened with sugar and agave syrup, and includes a touch of certified organic Sambazon Acai, a Brazilian palmberry. The fact that white tea is currently one of the beverage market's hottest trends was in evidence at the show. White tea comes from the same plant as black or green tea but is picked at a very early stage and contains even less caffeine than green tea but has heaps of antioxidants. For more information, call 800-865-4736, or visit www.honesttea.com.

McSteven's Inc. showed off some new additions to their licensed instant hot beverage mixes, including Betty Boop Cafe, pink hot chocolate in single-serve packs 80 to a case, 2.5- and 14-ounce tins 12 to a case, and 12 3-Pack Drink Gift Sleeves to a case. In addition to their full line of low-fat, low-caffeine gourmet instant cappuccino beverages, Caffe D'Vita showed off their new Horchata D'Vita rice drinks in Traditional and Strawberry flavors. Both are cinnamon flavored and can be served hot or cold. For more information, call 800-382-3676, or visit www.caffedoro.com.

Present in the United Produce Expo's aisles was Natalie's Orchid Island Juice Company, makers of 100-percent fresh-squeezed orange juice from Florida. Their product is picked and squeezed daily to order. The fruit is squeezed immediately after it is picked, frozen, and then shipped out the next day, resulting in a 17-day shelf life for retailers. The taste is key. Natalie's juice tastes like it was squeezed five minutes ago. It was indescribably delicious with a bit of pulp and delivers tons of fresh orange flavor. They also offer grapefruit juice and on a seasonal basis, natural and pink lemonade. For more information, call 772-465-1122, or visit www.orchidislandjuice.com.

For dessert, Vita Specialty Foods offered three new Cappuccino Concentrates to which one simply adds milk for delicious beverages. They come in the proprietary Kahlua, Courvoisier, and Drambuie flavors. The alcohol content is low enough to make them legal to ship and to sell without a liquor license, but they retain the originals' rich flavors. If you wish to add more booze, who are we to say you can't. For more information, call 800-974-4778.
