Tea time, or coffee time, if you're so inclined, just got a whole lot sweeter with two new books from Rick Rodgers, "Tea and Cookies" and "Coffee and Cake" (William Morrow, div. of Harper Collins). There is no better or more prolific recipe-smith than Rodgers, and, I have to say, these two are among my favorites. Rodgers begins each with a primer — tea and coffee, respectively — that includes a bit of history, descriptions of the various types of each available and detailed advice on selecting and brewing your drink of choice. He then offers recipes for several hot and cold versions of tea and coffee, and, finally, sections on ingredients and implements, and a wealth of recipes for two of America's favorite treats, cookies and cake.
