Clancy’s Fancy Hot Sauce
I happened to run into the CEO of Clancy’s Fancy Hot Sauce outside our booth at the Summer Fancy Food Show and subsequently received samples. I was sufficiently impressed by this unique hot sauce that I am sharing it with you now. Originally made by Colleen Clancy in Ann Arbor, Mich., in the late 1970s, it has enjoyed an enthusiastic following among the initiated, and it is just now that the company is going national with its sauce. Made from all-natural ingredients, including apple cider vinegar, fresh garlic, extra-virgin olive oil, Michigan wildflower honey, fresh ginger, paprika and cayenne peppers, this is a delicious and versatile sauce that is available in Mild, Hot and Xtra Hot. Clancy’s Fancy is packed in a charming little 7.5-ounce bottle, ready to distribute its pungent goodness one drop at a time. I have tried it on all kinds of foods, from burritos to scrambled eggs, and I have tasted the various strengths. I like them all, although I am inclined to the hottest of the three. What’s great about the sauce is that even with the big heat from the Xtra Hot, it’s still very flavorful. In other words, it’s not just about the heat, it’s about flavor. It would also be great for soups, marinades, guacamole, chili, burgers, pizzas and on and on. It’s my new favorite hot sauce — the Mild for my wife, the Xtra Hot for me.
