March 2009: Hits & Misses

Organic Batter Blaster

I know you are thinking this product belongs on an infomercial. But seriously, this organic pancake and waffle batter is great. I wish I could have thought of this. Just push on the nozzle the way you would whipped cream directly onto a skillet or waffle maker. You can be creative in shapes, it is so easy and tastes great, and makes fluffy pancakes. Just be sure to rinse the nozzle after you use to avoid clogging. Winner! Retails for $3.99.

Tizane 100% Organic Lemongrass Botanical

Blue agave nectar is the sweetener — and you can taste the difference with the first sip — and on top of that, agave is a natural prebiotic and loaded with inulin. With no artificial anything, this is a good balance of mint and lemongrass with just 60 calories in the entire bottle. Read the ingredients and smile! Especially when you get to the last one — catmint, which was used as an ancient remedy in England and is supposed to be a natural antacid, digestive aid, eliminates toxins and can help relieve tension. Only problem is that one bottle is $2.99, but after you drink it, you won’t care. Retails for $2.99.

Patchwork Chicken Liver Pate
Having grown up in New York, “chopped liver” was a mainstay food; it’s also what you would call someone that was kaput … but back to this product. Patchwork has done my New York heritage proud! Even though they’ve added tequila and cranberry — which is a good addition — their recipe and ingredients make this one of the best chopped livers, oh excuse me, I meant to say “chicken liver pates” ever! While I would not even begin to question this great Welsh recipe from Margaret Carter, I’m not quite so sure about the package design … hmmm … maybe kaput? And for everyone watching their waistline, remember, pate is a high-fat product — but this one IS worth it! Retails for $8.99.
