Rose water is a highly valued ingredient in the Middle East and throughout the Mediterranean region for both sweet and savory applications. Nielsen-Massey, preeminent producers of vanilla extract as well as a full line of vanilla-based products and other extracts, have added Rose Water to their collection. Using only the purest rose petals, the delicate essential oils are extracted using steam distillation. In the Middle East, India and Greece, rose water is often used in baklava, rice puddings, pastries, creams, and many other classic dishes. According to Nielsen-Massey, rose water is also often used for its aromatherapy qualities in skin-care products, cleansers, and even to soothe and relax babies. I used it to delicately flavor a rice pudding and also in whipped cream to accompany fresh strawberries. In both cases, the rose water added a subtle, fragrant touch that elevated the dishes to new levels of flavor. This is a very special product.
