Brookshire Grocery Co. said late last week that it would break
ground in January on a new concept store in its hometown of Tyler,
Texas, Progressive Grocer reports. The new concept, FRESH,
is expected to open by the end of next year, according to a company
statement.
Brookshire's store will anchor a 23-acre retail and office center,
The Ridge at Oak Hills, currently in the early stages of
development.
"FRESH by Brookshire's will offer food varieties and shopping
experiences not available elsewhere in the region," the company
statement said.
Brookshire's will also work with Oak Properties, the developer, to
build a 1.3-acre public park near the store that will feature a
natural amphitheater, walking paths and children's play areas, the
company statement continued. Brookshire's officials were
unavailable for comment on Friday. The developer declined to
comment, citing a confidentiality agreement.
The Ridge at Oak Hills is part of a master-planned development
along Old Jacksonville Highway with hundreds of acres for
residential, retail and office areas. The area is one of the
fastest growing in Tyler, according to the developer's Web site.
FRESH will be the "signature store" of the development, which
requires commercial architecture be tightly controlled and parking
limited to the side or rear of buildings.
