Italian ceramic design will take center stage during
Ceramica
Magnifica! Celebration of a Heritage, an exhibition of
sculptures and decorative objects highlighting the importance and
diversity of Italian ceramic design at 7 W. After a successful
launch at the Westchester Italian Cultural Center (WICC) in
October, the exhibit will open on Jan. 25 in time for the New York
Gift & Home Textiles Market Week.
Featuring the works of acclaimed international architects, artists
and designers -- including Krizia, Adam Tihany, Ottavio Missoni,
Giuliana de Camerino, Massimo Vignelli, Alessandro Mendini,
Federica Marangoni and many others -- the exhibition is curated by
renowned Italian artist Federica Marangoni and Evelyn Rossetti,
executive director of WICC.
The content of the exhibit is rooted in the medieval Italian city
of Este, which has held a Contemporary Ceramic Triennale since
2001. For Ceramica Magnifica, Rossetti and Marangoni pulled the
best of the best from the past nine years. The result is a mix of
49 pieces from the whimsical to the innovative that pay homage to
Este's artistic tradition.
Ceramica Magnifica will remain on view at 7 W through the
Spring Tabletop Market, which will take place April 21-24, 2009.
The building is finalizing its spring lineup of art shows, which
are held on the 11th floor Market Suites, and plans to make this
exhibition open to the public for select periods during the art
show circuit. Visit
www.7wnewyork.com as dates and times will be
announced in the coming months.
